Carbon Black

Carbon black is a bead or fine powder with pure black made from incomplete combustion of carbonaceous materials mainly petroleum. Carbon black is produced with the thermal decomposition method or the partial combustion method using hydrocarbons such as oil or natural gas as raw material. The characteristics of carbon black vary depending on manufacturing process, and therefore carbon black is classified by manufacturing process, the main manufacturing processes are furnace black process, channel process, acetylene black process, lampblack process. Carbon black is not dissoluble in water, acid, alkali but can be burned into CO2 in the air. The main ingredient of carbon black is carbon, while also including a very small volume of hydrogen, oxygen, sulfur, ash, tar, and water.

The most important application of carbon black is to be a pigment and reinforcing agent as well as strengthening agent and filling agent in rubber products such as belts, tires, cord layer of tires, tread rubbers, coverying rubbers, sidewall of tires, the rubber material for extrusion or calendered goods, inner tubes, bicycle tires, rubber tubes, rubber tapes, cable ropes, shoes kind, and patterns. Carbon black is also used as colorants for printing inks, paints, coatings, plastics, textile printing, color pastes, adhesive and sealants, printer toner. Furthermore, carbon black can be used a pigment and electric conductive agent of high-technology materials, including antistatic films, fibers, and floppy disks.
